Devizes RFC - Head Coach

Devizes RFC are a high performing amateur community club that focuses on the development of all rugby players and can evidence an exceptional youth to senior’s pathway.  We expect all our players to follow the standards you’d expect of a grassroots rugby club.

 

We run two senior men’s teams, a ladies’ team, colts and a full junior section.

Following an extensive review of senior rugby the Committee of Devizes RFC wish to recruit an aspirational Head Coach to assist the club in achieving their objective of sustaining our position in senior rugby (men 1sts) in upper Regional 2, (men 2nds) Counties 2 level and senior Ladies at (National Challenge 2) while looking to lead adoption of other forms of the game throughout our members rugby life cycle.

Job Description (Head Coach)

Roles and Responsibilities


Primary activities:

  • To lead the coaching team responsible for the senior squad & colts
    • Plan the coaching programme for the season.
  • Identify and help recruit and retain players as well as manage the progression of senior colts to the senior squad.
    • Plan, prepare and deliver individual coaching sessions for the Clubs senior squad.
    • Ensure that all sessions are designed to challenge and develop the skills and understanding of the players in your squad.
    • Evaluate all coaching sessions and games with the coaching team and players.
    • Attend all coaching sessions, matches involved with the Clubs senior squad.
    • Provide feedback to coaches, players and appropriate Devizes RFC committees.

To support this:

  • Establishing, agreeing and maintaining standards and core values for the whole squad and coaching team to align with Club Values, club and team goals
  • Ensure that match day first aid is put in place.
  • Ensure an effective rehabilitation regime is put in place for players following injury.
  • Plan and implement effective Strength and Conditioning regimes for the clubs senior squads.

Secondary activities:

  • Mentor and advise coaches and players where appropriate.
  • To create a sustainable system working with the junior and ladies’ coaches whilst developing the future talent of Devizes RFC.

Qualifications Required

Skills and Qualities
• UKCC Level 2 minimum, UKCC Level 3 preferable (or working towards)

  • Appropriate Safeguarding and DBS
  • Rugby Safe and Headcase training including keeping accurate records and reporting
  • Commitment and Enthusiasm - This position will require a time commitment involving evenings and weekends
  • Rugby Knowledge - It is expected that the Coach will have the required level of knowledge to enable the players to achieve their potential
  • Communication – The Head Coach must be an effective communicator at all levels, being encouraging, approachable and clear in how they work with others.
  • Planning - The Head Coach is directly responsible for planning the coaching programme for the season and will be asked to prepare individual sessions.
  • Leadership - The Head Coach sets an example and standards for the coaching team and squad. As such he/she will need to be able to inspire the coaching team and players to ensure that all involved maximize their potential. He/she may need to make difficult decisions about selection of players, standards of coaching etc.
  • Delegation - The Head Coach needs to be able to delegate agreed responsibilities to any assistant coaches to ensure that they feel valued and their expertise is used effectively.
  • Team Work - The Head Coach needs to be able to work effectively with the players, coaches, managers coaching co-ordinator and the main club
  • Punctuality - The Head Coach sets the standards for the coaches, manager and squad.
